Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust awards $75,000 to Northwest Valley Connect
Northwest Valley Connect receives a grant to expand essential transit services.
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Aug. 23, 2022) - Recently, Northwest Valley Connect was awarded a $75,000 grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust to expand its Mobility Center Program capacity to address special transit needs and build and retain a sustainable workforce.
"The NVC Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers greatly appreciate the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust award,” said Julie Kent-Partridge, Board Chairperson. “This grant will allow us to provide essential transit access and resources for the elder population living independently with limited abilities.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, NVC joined with other organizations in the West Valley to respond to requests for help from community members while addressing the growing demand for transit services. The demand for such services increased significantly for vulnerable populations, like the elderly and individuals with disabilities, that were increasingly becoming more isolated. Since 2014, NVC has been available to more than 8,500 residents who are aging in place, the disabled, seniors 65 years and older, and veterans without access to public transportation. 82% of rides, which is 10,000 to 12,000 annually, are health and human services, such as dialysis, cancer treatments, pharmacies, food securities, church, etc.
Since its inception, the Trust has supported programs and services for vulnerable populations and marginalized communities, funding $7.5 million in 2021 alone. To learn more about the Trust, visit www.ninapulliamtrust.org.
