A highly experienced and committed volunteer has joined the Board of Directors at Northwest Valley Connect (NVC). “We couldn’t be more delighted to welcome Sharon L. Hettick to our small but growing Board,” said NVC Executive Director Kathy Chandler. “Demand for our services has exploded and calls to our Center to be ‘connected’ to a transportation provider have more than doubled in this our third year of operation,” noted Chandler. “We need a Board of talented and hardworking members to help us plot our future and negotiate the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Wherever she has lived, Sun City West resident Sharon L. Hettick has had an active life as a volunteer. While in Bend, OR she was an officer in the American Association of University Women, a member of the Assisboardmembertance League and a Board member of the Cascade Festival of Music. While in Lake Tahoe, CA she was an appointee to the county Tax Board and the Redevelopment Agency, vice president of the local Chamber of Commerce and president of the Lake Tahoe Summer Music Festival. Here in Arizona, Hettick has been involved with the State Human Trafficking Council, produced an E-waste event in Sun City West/Sun City Grand, serves on the recently formed Our Neighborhood Network Board and is a tireless advocate on several local and state transportation advisory councils.

“It is in this last capacity that we have come to know and respect Sharon,” added Chandler. “She really understands the gaps in service that affect the homebound seniors and those with limiting disabilities that we are pledged to serve and she offers a strong voice on their behalf.”

Hettick has also agreed to lead the agency’s first-ever special event, “Motors and Meals,” and will serve as event co-chair with fellow Board member Bonnie Boyce-Wilson. The event will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the R.H. Johnson Rec Center and will feature food trucks, car show, wine tastings, a major raffle, silent auction and a center stage with DJ-hosted live music. “We will be drawing on Sharon’s rich experience in producing events and are putting together an event Steering Committee to handle the many tasks associated with a successful event,” said Chandler.
