Two entertainment groups will share the stage at the Motors and Meals fundraiser for

Northwest Valley Connect on Saturday, March 11, at the R.H. Johnson Rec Center in

Sun City West. Start The Party is a professional mobile DJ company that will lend the

perfect mix of talent, great music and abundant skill to keep the audience entertained

and engaged. A DJ for all ages he will select music that will have a bread appeal to

every member of the many families expected to attend.

Also performing will be the Kenny Thames Jazz Combo, sending their smooth sounds

of jazz across the huge Rec Center venue. Earning Echo Magazine’s Reader’s Choice

Awards for both 2007 and 2008, the Combo has been a favorite of many fans all across

Arizona. Whether they’re playing jazz, the blues, country or rock ‘n roll, they create the

energy for every occasion.

The fundraiser is the first for Northwest Valley Connect and, in addition to the music, will

feature a car show, food trucks, wine and beer, silent auction, raffle and various

children’s activities. The event is free to all and will take place from 1:00 to 6:00 that

afternoon. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help Northwest Valley Connect continue its

mission of providing improved transportation options to homebound adults and those

with mobility disabilities.

Northwest Valley Connect recently marked its second full year of operation, responding

to more than 3,500 calls to its call center where trained volunteers “connect” its clients

to an appropriate transportation provider. In some cases, the agency uses its own

volunteer drivers to make the trips. “The growth in calls has been explosive,” said Kathy

Chandler, Executive Director and Mobility Manager. “Transportation remains the

number one challenge for those well enough to live at home but who no longer can

drive. These folks need transportation not only to doctors’ appointments but also to

shopping and the all-important social activities.”

Major sponsors for Motors and Meals are: Sun Health, Independent News Media, Birt

and Louisa Kellam and Benevilla. Underwriters include DMB/Marley Park, APS, Total

Transit, Epcor, the Sun City West Rec Centers, FirstLight Home Care, SunWest Federal

Credit Union, Champs Family Automotive and AMTrust Bank.
